The National Trust is not dropping its lawsuit over Trump’s ballroom.

The head of the trust, Carol Quillen, said in a statement, “We are not planning to voluntarily dismiss our lawsuit.”

Newsmax reported:

The National Trust for Historic Preservation says it won’t drop its lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump’s White House ballroom project following a request by the Department of Justice to withdraw the complaint after shots rang out at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

“We are not planning to voluntarily dismiss our lawsuit, which endangers no one and which respectfully asks the Administration to follow the law,” said a statement from Carol Quillen, the head of the trust.

Alongside Trump, Vice ‌President JD Vance, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth — who are in the presidential line of succession in that order — attended the dinner.

Trump called on the lawsuit to be dropped after the assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Trump said, “What happened last night is exactly the reason that our great Military, Secret Service, Law Enforcement and, for different reasons, every President for the last 150 years, have been DEMANDING that a large, safe, and secure Ballroom be built ON THE GROUNDS OF THE WHITE HOUSE.”

Truth Social:

What happened last night is exactly the reason that our great Military, Secret Service, Law Enforcement and, for different reasons, every President for the last 150 years, have been DEMANDING that a large, safe, and secure Ballroom be built ON THE GROUNDS OF THE WHITE HOUSE. This event would never have happened with the Militarily Top Secret Ballroom currently under construction at the White House. It cannot be built fast enough! While beautiful, it has every highest level security feature there is plus, there are no rooms sitting on top for unsecured people to pour in, and is inside the gates of the most secure building in the World, The White House. The ridiculous Ballroom lawsuit, brought by a woman walking her dog, who has absolutely No Standing to bring such a suit, must be dropped, immediately. Nothing should be allowed to interfere with with its construction, which is on budget and substantially ahead of schedule!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

The DOJ sent a letter to the group calling for the lawsuit to be dropped.

In the letter, the DOJ wrote, “If your client does not dismiss the lawsuit by 9:00 AM on Monday, the government will move to dissolve the injunction and dismiss the case in light of last night’s extraordinary events.”

The Hill reported:

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Sunday pressed the preservation group suing the White House over President Trump’s ballroom project to drop the lawsuit in the wake of Saturday’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner.

In a letter posted to social media by acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the DOJ pressed for the National Trust for Historic Preservation to drop its “frivolous lawsuit” against the Trump administration after Saturday’s incident, which prompted the evacuation of the president and high-profile administration officials from the gala.

“If your client does not dismiss the lawsuit by 9:00 AM on Monday, the government will move to dissolve the injunction and dismiss the case in light of last night’s extraordinary events,” the letter continues.
