During an interview, Trump said Iran does not “want to be hit,” suggesting the country is seeking to avoid further military action.
President Donald Trump said in an interview that the Iranians want to make a deal and “don’t want to be hit” as negotiations are ongoing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
“They want to make a deal. Look, it’s obvious. They don’t want to be hit. Ok? They want to make a deal. So we will see,” Trump said in an interview released by Punchbowl News on Friday.
Trump has previously said this was Iran’s last opportunity to make a deal.
He has also repeatedly said the Strait of Hormuz must be open and that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.

The president on Monday said that new talks between Washington and Tehran are the “last chance” for Iran to forge a deal and avoid an escalation of U.S. strikes on the country.
Trump, speaking at the Oval Office, said he expects negotiations will focus on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and create a pathway for Iran to address the United States’ concerns about its nuclear program. He told reporters they would likely learn about the status of the negotiations “today or tomorrow.”
